I am already having Holiday pangs of joy...thinking about gifts, and giving and my Christmas tree and shopping and crowds. So, I thought I would post something that will be useful for those of us who LOVE to wrap beautiful presents. In my mother's house as I got older, present wrapping was a production. We cleared off the dining room table, put the extra leaf in, and brought out the bins, and tubs of ribbons, tags and stunning papers. It was hours of wrapping until every gift looked like a work of art. Secret Santa'a within our family were funny...my cousins always knew that there gift was from Aunt Rosemarie! This next find is a Trunkt Artist who is also on Etsy. Lucky Duck Designs handcrafts beautiful cards using beautiful papers and soft delicate tones! They make me feel relaxed and loved just looking at them, so I imagine getting one in the mail would be REALLY nice! Aside from my favorite picks below, there is also a service where you can order 10 cards in a row, it's called "Ducks in a Row" and if you give them all of your info about a friend's birthday or an anniversary, they send you a reminder to mail the cards! There is something so calm and connected about the images that Tracey Antonik of Photo Glassworks uses for her pendants. They make me feel good, free, connected to life! Maybe because I'm a lover of nature...or maybe because birds make me think of flight and freedom...or...maybe because I'm a weirdo. Whatever the reason you should really take a peek at her Etsy Shop. The pendants she carries are carefully constructed using glass and wire, and feature not only birds, but trees, and other natural scenes and intricate designs. I fell in love with the leaf magnets from Run Alice Run on Etsy. I have such a busy fridge...and you can always use another magnet right? I will never forget when my husband and I first moved into our apartment, my cousin Donna bought us our first magnet. It said "Families are like fudge, mostly sweet with a few nuts!" I remember thinking what a thoughtful gift...lol...we promptly used it to hold up all the delivery invoices as we moved in! I remember taking a furniture class in art school, and thinking how cool it would be to make my own pieces, and then when confronted with all of the whirling whizzing machines...I was feeling a bit intimidated! These pieces by Bombus are a little more my speed...they are altered pieces of furniture using decoupage! Sometimes it's fabric, sometimes maps, newspaper and comics. The chair I chose to feature is the Comic Chair. I thought how cool it would be as a desk in a child's bedroom....or even at my desk for my laptop! It's a great gift for a collector...all though who knows what comics were harmed in the making of this chair...lol...anyway...take a look at the shop, they really are a lot of fun!

The next items are really something I could use in my car!!! I found Allyson Hill's shop through a main page treasury on Etsy, for a completely different item. I was constantly looking for places to put garbage in my car, and finally ended up with a plastic bag hanging off of the seat. It's definitely not pretty, but it's functional! Ok, so I was wandering through Trunkt.org, and came upon P.B. Loco. What is it you ask? GOURMET, FLAVORED...PEANUT BUTTER...oh yeah...I said flavored. For instance, feel like some peanut butter and chocolate...just order their "Dark Chocolate Duo" made with European chocolate, or the "Raspberry White Chocolate"! I personally am a protein shake lover, so, my usual is a banana, chocolate protein powder and peanut butter....and now...I can skip all that and just add the "Jungle Banana" flavor! For my next pick...I found two different designers on Style Scene. The first one is from Zeto, it's an awesome blue bell sleeved t-shirt with a tree print. I always love a bell sleeve, and it happened to be a favorite color of mine...so I had to feature it! It's rare that I find a t-shirt with a message, especially for menswear! I am always looking for something for my husband...and I may end up buying him this tee from Moral Fabric. I have to admit, being a jewelry designer myself, I often indulge in the work of other jewelry designers! Sure, there are things I could try to make, but...they are so beautiful...and so well done, that sometimes I just WANT THEM! I am always drawn to trees for some reason, every time I am looking for artwork or even just cards...if there's a tree I always have to have it. That's probably why I stopped when I found this next artist Melissa Moss. Her paintings have trees and other botanical elements in them like Venus fly traps, cherry blossoms and ferns. Some of them have a great sense of humor too like the "Snax" print below and the "The Party’s Over" prints. They are detailed yet simple in their form and I found myself going from one to another and quickly viewing almost the entire page. I found these decal sets on Etsy, and thought, what a great idea! You can stick them on your walls and if you get sick of them you can take them down. They are not reusable tho...so make sure you place them correctly the first time! They come in a palette of colors you can choose from, in motifs from flowers, to spirals, to even monkeys for the kiddos room. A great way to fill up some of those bare walls in your house and add a bit of interest to any room. Nest "Changing the World One Purchase At a Time"

I was browsing around this past week and through a link on the Richmond Craft Mafia Spring Bada Bing website, I found Nest. In their own words from the about page on their site...Nest is:

"...a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the lives of women in developing countries. The mission of Nest is to support women artists and artisans in the developing world by helping them create sustainable entrepreneurial businesses. To do this, Nest provides micro-credit loans to be used for the purchase of the supplies and materials necessary to begin and/or maintain art or craft-based businesses."

I am about independent design, whether it is here or in other countries. Art is a universal language, and it is worth supporting always. Women who are like us, driven to create, should have that outlet, and should be able to make a living doing what they love.

You can help Nest with their mission by either shopping from their site, donating items to the site and to their cause, or making donations to one of the woman in need. Please stop by and see what there is to offer, some of the items are made by the women who are benefiting from the program!! Below are just a few things I found.

I have to share this next business with you, because her work it truly some of the best I've seen. I own several sets of beads from this artist, and I will surely own several more! Carrie Hamilton at the Bead Tree is an incredibly talented bead maker who has recently crafted the set I am showing below. The intricacy of these beads and the color combinations as well as the sheer patience that I'm sure it must have taken to make them completely bowls me over! I have forever been attracted to the look and feel of silk dupioni. So, upon finding Katie James and all of the magnificent items on the site...I am hooked. I have picked my favs, the pink checkbook cover, and the jewelry case. Both constructed for function while being decadent in silk! I LOVE the little pockets in the jewelry case, other's I've seen are just one big case, no dividers so when you do wanna wear something you have to untangle it first. It's ingenious...and beautiful and I want it...lol...other than these items there is also a clever little doggie treat bag made of pleather that you can carry your treats in while walking your best little 4-legged bud! The next find is really in honor of Mother's Day! Mommy Makes Roses, is a company run by an artist named Cassie Mae Chappell. All of the roses on her site are HANDMADE using paper! I was completely blown away by her artistry. They look like real roses...so much so that just looking at the photos on her site made me feel like I could smell them. They come in a range of amazingly crafted colors, and for all occasions. The best part is, they never wilt! Please take a look, you won't believe it yourself!

My mother in law...is always joking that laundry is her life. She had two boys and basically did my husband's laundry till the day he actually moved out...(lucky!) Truthfully tho, she still does it, cause when we go there for dinner she actually asks us to BRING IT!! Lindy Sue's Shop is something that I came across on Indie Designer Labels. It's a beautiful online storefront for "clean living!" She carries everything from clothes pin hangers to stain removers to adorable little gift tags. I am personally interested in the travel sized stain removal kit....think about it...Spring is here and summer is coming...you'll be wearing all that white...and all of those beautiful summer colors...and eating salsa! Koch Modern Folk Painting

I found Koch Modern Folk Painting on Etsy, and from the first time I saw the paintings I was enthralled. Each piece to me has a quiet strength...using soft detail and strong forms with an earthy color scheme the artist brings the items to life on a flat canvas. I found the most unusual knitwear last night! Elfin House makes beautiful ethereal pieces that look as though they float on your body. They are delicate and feminine and have a sweetness to them. The perfect light sweater for spring or summer, some are sleeveless...and some are flutter or cap sleeved. The colors run from lemony yellows to peach, to soft pinks and corals...there are even lilacs and beautiful blues! I was at a friend's house recently and noticed a sweet smell in the air all day that I couldn't locate the source of...I kept wondering what she had made for dessert...8) It wasn't until later than I noticed a diffuser on the top shelf of a bookcase in the living room. I have purchased them before, but had never really loved the scents. It turns out my friend had purchased from Orion Botanica...the "sugar" scent! Aside from the sweet perfume that permeated her home, the bottle was quite beautiful...as is the packaging! I apologize for missing my Monday morning post...I actually have a whole Etsy favorites theme planned...which I will resume tommorrow...but today I had a truly special event! My friends Bill & Kim had their first child today, and I was lucky enough to be in the room with Kim when she gave birth. It was truly one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed in my life! Here is a photo of their beautiful baby below.

Her name is Cyan...she weighs 7lbs 6oz and was 19.5 inches long!! Isn't she beautiful???

Nooworks Black Forest

I happened to be browsing about the American Heart Association when I found my next pick. On a more personal note, my father has had numerous heart problems, starting with 6 bypass surgery when he was only 42, to more recently at 67 having both his mitral and aortic valves replaced. It was grueling sitting there for 8 hours...but it paid off, he is healthier and happier today thanks to what the doctors are capable of doing. They can only do so much research and develop so many procedures thanks to numerous donations to their cause. So...to make that long story make sense...Nooworks has a Black Forest collection and one of their feature items is a "Heart Pattern Sweatshirt". 10% of all of the sales from this sweatshirt are donated to the American Heart Association. It just struck a chord with me, and I was compelled to feature this item! Not only does it donate some of your dollars to a good cause...but you will incidentally look pretty cool wearing it!! There's nothing more rewarding than having people you love over for a gathering and cooking for them! The most fun part for me (aside from seeing friends & family of course) is making the table pretty. From the plates to the centerpiece to the napkins etc...I MUST have a pretty table! It is a tradition in my family handed down to me from my mother. I was browsing around and happened across the Happy Tiers collection and thought...I could make SUCH a pretty table with these! Ok, I am forever looking for clothing that is bold and beautiful and different...and there are so many talented people with needles out there now, that it's easier to find something than it used to be...but sometimes you come across a certain piece that just makes you WANT IT. Point blank, this Libbie Dress from Soleil Rouge is it for me! From the simple slit collar to the straight lines and retro cut, it makes me WISH I could wear it! Not for the faint of heart the pink and black Libbie dress is a bold statement, and definitely begs "look at ME". I am sooo excited about this next find! How many times do you lose all the little things you have in your bag...or your car? Or on your desk? How many times do you wish you had a little back up purse when you went shopping...to throw all your cards and coupons in? And don't you always just wish it was the CUTEST DARN purse in the world? Well...now it can be...just go and see Miss Alison! I am ALWAYS looking for a small zipper pouch for just about everything...I carry them all over the place with me, there are multiples in my car, and in my house containing everything from lipstick to jewelry to coupons! It's just so eay to pick one up and go!

Everyone loves a great belt! I came across Steel Toe Studios on Indie Shopping, and they have so many styles to choose from I'm stumped. Aside from the work which is gritty and industrial in all of the good ways, the site itself is fun to navigate.
